Tomi Adeyemi…..what did you put in this series?!?! These characters feel so real to me, I want to hug them and punch almost every single one after reading this book. At one point or another they all made bad decisions and I wanted to scream.

I don’t even know where to begin. Amari and her rise and downfall with the elders! She had no business being there and just when she was doing well and doing good she decides it’s okay to slaughter a whole village as long as she is able to kill Inan and Nehanda??? What?!?! Inan never fails to disappoint, always making the worst decisions and never thinking about the consequences or even the next move. He should have just killed his mom. Nehanda being the architect behind the attack that spurred Saran on??? What?!?! Ojore, poor guy, twisted by his aunts hate and then killed by her when he realizes the truth. Zelie’s new powers are terrifying! And I wonder how long they will be able to sustain that link, is mama Agba’s sacrifice enough? (That entire scene ripped MY heart in half!). I don’t know if I can trust Roën but I sure as shit do not want Zélie to go back to Inan!! Tzain and Amari?? How do they come back from that? Can they??? THE END?!?! WHO???? WHAT?!?!?! HOW!!!!!!

I cannot wait for the next book.

I found this pretty boring and the characters kept making nonsensical decisions. I’m worried because anytime a YA book has a bad second book (Matched, Delirum, The Maze Runner, Divergent, ACOTAR, red queen etc) the rest of the series continues on the nose dive. Hopefully with the extended break the issues can be fixed but I’m not holding out much hope.
