This was everything I ever wanted! It was a lot like the Hawkeye comics, in art and in humor, and it reminded me how much I need Spiderwoman in my life! MORE, PLEASE AND THANK YOU! Also, can we just have more of the Fury/Coulson bromance? Seriously? Best thing ever!

Well, that was a lot of fun!

Loses one star for the cliff hanger ending of the main story but then going into a spin off two parter that really doesn't fit.

Otherwise top notch A grade fun.

Ales Kot is quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. This book is a perfect balance of cleverness, wit, humor, action, and team dynamics. Fans of Matt Fraction's "Hawkeye" really need to check out this book. The best, and most fun, first issue I've read in a long time!

An interesting start if glib and irreverent. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it feels like it's trying a little too hard.

This is a funny, zany, well-written book. Love that the secret avengers are taking on the hardest missions while not taking themselves too seriously while doing so.

Secret Avengers, for everyone who wished for an Avengers book a little more like Nextwave.

I've enjoyed most of Ales Kot's Image titles, as well as his work for other publishers outside of Marvel and DC. I was looking forward to him having a fun Avengers book to balance Hickman's Very Serious Galactic Story that ran parallel to this. Unfortunately, this felt like the derivative little brother of [a:Matt Fraction|61382|Matt Fraction|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1464823629p2/61382.jpg]'s [b:Hawkeye, Volume 1: My Life as a Weapon|16002136|Hawkeye, Volume 1 My Life as a Weapon|Matt Fraction|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1525360660l/16002136._SY75_.jpg|21502266]. It directly lifts gimmicks from that run but plunks them down in a silly MODOK story. Even the art looks like slightly watered down [a:David Aja|61385|David Aja|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1582815335p2/61385.jpg] Hawkeye art. The panel layouts are the same, the shadowing and color pallete choices are similar (though they evolve more into their own style as the story progresses). It really gives the hint that Marvel was desperate to continue the successful Hawkeye style, and knew that [a:Jeff Lemire|543719|Jeff Lemire|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1568921362p2/543719.jpg]'s [b:Hawkeye, Volume 5: All-New Hawkeye|25066770|Hawkeye, Volume 5 All-New Hawkeye|Jeff Lemire|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1450072510l/25066770._SY75_.jpg|44751532] wasn't going to be that book.

I'll still read the next volume, in hopes that it finds its own voice (though Deadpool is on the next cover, so I'm not confident that it will). But this is my least favorite of Kot's work, and I can only really recommend it if you're a huge MODOK or Phil Coulson fan who's down for a silly adventure story.
