If We Ever Meet Again by Ana Huang is the first book in the If Love series. Farrah is an aspiring interior designer and Blake is an ex football star who are both attending college in Shanghai. One believes in love and wants the fairytale and the other thinks real love doesn’t exist.

This was a decent read. I listened to it on audio and the dual narrators were good. I love when a book has the dual narrators. I think it definitely adds a lot of depth and dynamic to the story!

I will continue with the series as I am interested in seeing how Farrah and Blake’s story ends.

This book honestly caught me off guard—in the best way. I’ve been a fan of Ana Huang’s work for ages, especially the Twisted series, so I kind of thought I knew what to expect going in. But If We Ever Meet Again was a pleasant surprise. Yes, it’s got the familiar Ana vibes—beautiful people, intense chemistry, friendship group drama—but the tone and emotional depth hit a little differently here.

The story follows Farrah and Blake, two university students who meet while studying abroad in Shanghai. That setting alone gave the book a fresh, vibrant energy I really loved. You’re getting a romance, yes, but it’s also about growth, identity, figuring out who you are away from home—and that part really resonated with me.

The dynamic between Farrah and Blake starts off light and fun, a bit of playful banter and attraction, but then it gradually builds into something more meaningful. I liked that their relationship didn’t feel rushed, even though you could feel the tension sizzling under the surface. Blake was a lot softer than I expected (in a good way), and Farrah had this lovely mix of vulnerability and ambition that made her feel really grounded.

And okay, let’s talk about the pregnancy trope—which I surprisingly really enjoyed here! It added a layer of emotional complexity I didn’t see coming. It gave the story more weight, more umph, without taking away from the core romance. Honestly, it elevated the whole book for me.

The friendship group dynamic was another strong point. There’s something about watching a whole circle of friends slowly fall in love that’s just so satisfying—it reminds me of those sprawling romance series where you get attached to everyone and can’t wait to see who gets their own book next.

So while it’s definitely a different flavour of Ana Huang than I’m used to, it worked for me. It had heart, heat, friendship, unexpected plot turns, and a romance that felt both real and swoony. Definitely a solid start to the series—and now I’m kind of hooked.
