I can see why this book has become a classic! A great plot, story-telling, suspense, characters! I was invested in the book from the beginning.

A fictional Italian-American crime family is set in NY. The way the main character – Vito Corleone  (the head of the family and the Godfather) - is written is the pleasure for a character-driven reader like me. The action takes place in years 1945-1955, there is a second timeline – Vito Corleone’s childhood.

I loved the book, jumping straight to book two.

A rare occasion where I enjoyed the movie more

Enjoyed it very much! The films (1&2) stuck very closely to the book and it was great getting more details. I think any fan of the movies will love the book.

This book just easily became my all time top 5.

This is a good book and I was amused to find out that Puzo said that he was done writing for the craft and wrote The Godfather as a way to sell books and make money.

Obviously most people come to this book having seen probably one of the most celebrated films. And if we were gonna play the which one is better game then I think the film is the superior product. However that's not to say the novel is low quality. It's a very good book and provides a number of point of views that peer into psychologies that the movie didn't explore. This gives the story added depth and a little insight into the larger world that the corleones inhabit. A fun quick read of a classic story.
