I love how Fredrik Backman talks about such serious and dark topics. There's so much kindness and empathy without glorifying that I always feel safe to read his books. If you find suicide particularly triggering, this may be too much as, while there aren't graphic descriptions, it is sort of central to the story.emmarose19's review against another edition

Reading about these characters made me anxious. But i think that’s the point! This story is a mystery and a comedy and an intensely reflective tale about how hard life it. There’s even fun twists! I really enjoyed reading it.

I buddy read this with my partner, who I think enjoyed this more than I did, though I still had a good time with it.
A good book, classic Backman writing and characters, with a slight mystery twist. This is probably my least favourite Backman so far, I think I just much prefer having one main character we follow, or at least one main pov that we really get to know throughout, rather than bouncy between a large cast of characters. But thats very much personal preference.
I read this partly via ebook and partly audio, and I did find it hard to focus when listening to the audio,, which potentially did ditract from my enjoyment a little. Still pretty good, just not my favourite.

Viscerally human and so so funny. I truly love each and every one of these characters. Would be the perfect book for aliens to read when they take over Earth to understand what homo sapiens are. It's pretty corny, but I loved it.
