Great book; probably Backman's best to date, but a little repetitive in the middle. The end was positively charming and heart-touching.

Bit saccharine and tied up a tad too neatly but it was a nice entertaining read with some lovely quotes. The writing style is also really beautiful.

Funny enough, this is my second hostage book this year where it’s relatively accidental and they become friends. Fredrik Backman is rather good at bringing the heart to his books and this one did that as well. The characters grew on you, the story stayed interesting as we slowly learned about the truth as it happened. (I’m having trouble this year comparing all of my books against Beartown which is making me stingier with my 5 stars
