Crying at the airport because of this one.

This is the heartbreaking and heartwarming story of almost 8 year old Elsa as she delivers letters for her eccentric deceased grandmother. Along the way she learns about bravery, love, forgiveness, and so many more human complexities often through the lens of her fairytales (quality literature).

I absolutely adored this story and highly recommend!!

As promised, it made me both laugh and cry. A wonderful story of grief, fairy tales, regret, being different, and the reminder that while everyone has sorrows, we all carry them differently.

I liked the characters and the story. The interactions between characters were interesting and engaging with some surprises I didn’t see coming.

Like in Ove, this author doesn’t seem to understand what people are like at different ages. In Ove, the main character is described as an old old man ... in his early 60’s! Here, the main character is a 7 year old girl who is insightful way beyond her years. However, if I can just let that go, the characters are very good.

The story is tied together via the fairy tales her grandmother told her. The fairy tales are important, but I found them boring without context. Later, when the context of the fairy tales becomes clear, they are meaningful. But there was a lot of time spent listening to fairy tales that had no meaning, and I found those early sections a slog.

In the end, I loved how the whole tale tied together so I’m glad I read it, despite some early hiccups.

This wasn't my favorite Backman book. I didn't get immediately drawn into this story the way I have with his other work. But Backman is a master storyteller and even his not-so-amazing novel is better than most other authors' best.

I liked this book a lot. I'm glad I read Britt-Marie beforehand, it gives the story a little something extra.

Very cute story line that made me tear up a time or two (or seven). Once I got into the book, it was hard for me to put it back. If I was not renovating my house, I would have finished it in a day

I loved this sweet story of a girls relationship with her grandmother.  The fairy tales, the land of almost awake, and the real things they all represented were so inspiring.
