WOW! My hats off to Nin for being a champion of her circumstances. I loved the usage of quotes for every chapter it was quite inspirational. Overcoming and the continuance of fighting for her health is extraordinary. I loved how supportive her hubby Tom is to her and how her children are “the light in her life that shines on in the darkest hours” this resonates very much. I’ve recommended this book to my friends and I extend the same to you the person reading this review.

Suddenly Silent and Still is the story of a woman who suddenly becomes disabled; she lost her hearing in one ear and her sense of balance. Most of the book details the ways she overcame and accepted this hard time in her life.

Before this year, I read maybe one memoir a year, but this year I’ve already read three or four and it’s definitely a genre I’ve been sleeping on. I received a free copy of this book to leave an honest review.

I really enjoyed the voice the author had in telling her story. Very conversational and made the book a very easy read.

One of my favorite lines: “The unique lives of people qualify everyone to write a riveting memoir.” Every life someone has lived is a story worth telling. While not everyone may want to read those stories, I think this one was worth while.

If you are a fan of Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning, I think you’ll like this one!

This is a beautifully written memoir that shares a story of such strength and bravery amidst a profound loss of ability. A shining light for those of us with an invisible disability, demonstrating how we may go forth with dignity and love. I received a free advance review copy and am leaving this review voluntarily.

The author has hearing loss in one ear. She writes about losing her hearing and how her life spiraled into trauma. She dealt with life-debilitating vertigo early on, and had to give up her career and take a look at her life.

I enjoyed reading about Nin's journey, especially her relating things in life to nature, animals, and gardening. She emphasizes that you never know what life will throw at you. You don't know how you'll react. You may find that you don't like parts of yourself. You may also find a way to rise above it all.

This is a real look at how a disability can be jarring, especially when it comes on unannounced. Nin's hardships are real, but so are her triumphs.

Wonderfully written, deeply personal, uplifting, and laugh-out-loud funny at unexpected times. This memoir would be an enjoyable and inspiring read for anyone, and I found it particularly valuable as I suffer from a chronic health condition and Nin's journey resonated with me.
