This book is amazing. It should become required reading. Understanding how colonial structures influence the enquity and poverty of the people is the first step of freeing ourselves from oppression.

What a phenomenal book. R.F.Kuang is an impeccable author and made me feel so many emotions for the characters, their history and their futures. I have never and I feel will never read a more important historical fiction tied in with fantasy. The book always felt like everything happening could be real, and that is because it is based so closely of our own histories only with the fantastical visions of Rebecca, nethertheless, the fantasy aspect never took away the importance of the stories being told and the lesson being portrayed, in fact they only reinforce the ideologies. This book was astounding and if you want a place to begin reading historical fiction or non-fictions this is it.
