Meh. Perfectly competent Batman storytelling going on here, I guess, but I can't work up much enthusiasm for it. I expect better from Matt Wagner.

This is such a fun story, and it really manages to blend the essential grittiness of Gotham and some fantastically cheesy science fiction tropes. Hugo Strange embodies that weird mesh, a villain who is at once terrifying and comical. The art style is wonderful and expressive. I would say the romantic moments between Julie and Bruce are weak points; it's difficult for me to believe he's in love with someone who is so frequently characterized by her lawyer puns, but once Julie discovers the truth about her father, her relationship with Bruce seems much more sincere. All in all, I really enjoyed this one.

First comic I've read where Hugo Strange gets the spotlight. I enjoyed this one.
