I didn't like the writing. The syntax didn't work for me at all. I might have finished this if it had been an audiobook.

The lush writing style and descriptive horror imagery around bugs and parasites were really effective. The allegory made literal of the rot/death of colonization was also effective. The story itself was a very unique concept especially with regard to parasite as possession. However, the story itself was hard to follow at times; I think the author tried to pull a bit too many threads.

This is the first book that I've read from this author. The cover really got me to put it in my cart. The story has to be the best that I've read this year. The tone, the conversations, are just amazing and hooks you to the end. I really can't wait to read another book by this author. Her ability to tell a story is amazing.

The best part of the book was the haunting. Some great scenes, even if the whole scenario was predictable. The ending was the least surprising part.

The worst part, the romance. I didn't believe for one second than Florence liked Jade. Doesn't help than everyone was boring or annoying.

I enjoyed the world building and the cultural aspects, as well as the message of anticolonialism.

i guess i really wasn’t feeling this. it was mediocre which was honestly worse than bad. i think it could’ve done something really cool with the concepts and messages but the writing style was not it and some parts were too long.
