The need to sleep was only thing stopping me attempting to read the entire book in one day.

Book #34 Read in 2017
A Darkness Absolute by Kelley Armstrong

This is the second book in a gritty mystery series centered around Rockton, a place where people go to escape their lives and the people after them. Casey is still working as local police, alongside her boyfriend, Sheriff Eric Dalton. She stumbles upon a missing local woman, found in a cave in a bad state. Casey brings her back to Rockton and begins her investigation into who did this to Nicole. Will she be able to find out before she is the next victim? This series is interesting and will keep readers guessing until the end. I received this book from Amazon Vine in exchange for a honest review.

The first book in the series was certainly better. This one seemed to go on longer than needed, dragging scenes out. I enjoyed it but got bored towards the end.

This was a satisfying follow up to last year's [b:City of the Lost|26114566|City of the Lost (Casey Duncan, #1)|Kelley Armstrong|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1461768996s/26114566.jpg|45106832], which I reviewed here. It picks up four months after the events in the first book with Rockton Detective Casey Butler and Deputy Will Anders heading out into the Yukon wilderness to track down and bring back one of the town's AWOL citizens. What they end up finding is more than they bargained for.

I enjoyed getting back to Rockton and seeing how Casey is settling into her new life there as well as seeing how she's handling her new relationship with Sheriff Eric Dalton. We get to meet some more of Rockton's citizens, find out some backstory on ones we met in the last book, and discover that some of the old trouble makers are still around as well. The mystery had me changing my mind about my prime suspect/s several times before the end.

I was glad to read on the author's website that she is contracted for at least four books in the series because I definitely want to read more.

**Reread February 2018: Still loved it but Jennifer has got to go.**
