Unlike my previous experiences with Arthur C Clarke, I quite enjoyed this. The ape sequence are perhaps the most compelling.

This book is hard for me to rate. The idea is fantastic and I can see how much it influenced modern sci-fi. The writing is also objectively good. But I just didn’t enjoy this. It objectively should be a 4 star read but because I didn’t enjoy it, it’s a 3-star for me. I struggled because of the lack of dialogue (which I never thought would be a complaint of mine since I hated Eragon and The Horse and his Boy for too much dialogue) and the lack of character development. I think it’s a good book but it just didn’t work for me. I’m still happy I read it.

I have never read any sci fi (unless Jurassic Park counts) so this was my first time reading any.

I had it on kindle some months and picked it up on audible yesterday during a sale. Having no book on the go I thought I would give it a go.

What a very interesting and scary read, scary not in terms of horror but in terms of what may be out there. It was very eye opening and I can see why people think so highly of it. I can imagine the impact it would have had at the time and how it inspired people in their interests of space and the cosmos.

It was a great read and superb from start to finish, I would have liked a bit more depth in the characters.

The ending I need to read again to understand it properly. I will for sure check out the film in coming weeks.

A great read, if you're going to start reading sci fi, no better place than starting at the top.

4.5 rounded up.

I haven’t watched the movie or know anything about it!
I picked up the book because it’s a science fiction classic. I liked some of the ideas in the book about how aliens manipulated us millions of years ago on our journey to become humans. I liked the journey into space and reaching Saturn. I loved how it continued through the galaxy and then leaving the galaxy into the unknown. At first I thought he went into a dark hole but I’m not sure anymore. Entertaining book. Not much character development though. I still don’t know much about David Bowmen.
