A decent sequel about the period of true crime celebrity, copycat killers, and never really knowing someone…
Becoming the Boogeyman by Richard Chizmar is the sequel to Chasing the Bogeyman…a fictional true crime look at a bizarre series of 1980s murders…followed by the modern day apprehension of the killer…
Richard Chizmar has to deal with the fame of his book and its adaptation. He also has to deal with the infamy…the trolls and what not that play pranks or send terrible messages or calls his way…
Of course, leaving a body of human body parts is a new one…
Hurled into a new murder mystery…Richard tries to keep his wits about him and his family safe with one of his only confidants being the Boogeyman…the imprisoned serial killer he helped capture…
This is a very good work told entirely in the modern day (outside of some historical context pieces), introducing a few new figures to the Boogeyman legend.
I actually liked this more than the first one…possibly because of the more focused narrative.
Sadly…the title is a lie. You won’t get any indication of why the Boogeyman became who he was by reading this book…but you’ll get a better idea of how he operates…
Also…I lied..:
This isn’t a sequel.
It’s part two of a trilogy…

This was alittle slower than the first one but overall it was still very captivating. The way it’s written truly makes you think it’s all factual. I’m sensing a third is in the mist??
