This is the second book in the series, so you’re seeing the same characters with more information. I absolutely loved chasing the boogieman and couldn’t wait to dive into this book!

I love that Chizmar adds photos and clips of interviews throughout the book. It really makes it feel like this actually happened rather than being fiction.

I love that even though it’s fiction he puts so much of his self and family into the characters.

I’m a sucker for serial killer books and Chizmar has such a way of drawing me in and keeping me interested from start to finish. There was just enough creep factor that I was on the edge of my seat.

I can’t wait to see where he takes this next!

"Usually, driving through my hometown felt like visiting with a long lost friend. The familiar streets and landmarks brought me a sense of calm and comfort and served as a reminder of the person I'd once been and the hardscrabble path I'd taken to become the person I was today. But something felt off-kilter. Something felt different. The town itself was different; I knew that. It had grown old and tired, just like the rest of us."

Was much longer than it needed to be. I pushed through because I needed to know what happened, but it didn't get really good for me until the last 25% or so. I appreciated the way all the small details were tied together in the end in a clever way, but there was still a lot of unnecessary fluff that slowed me down quite a bit. Will I still read the next one in the series that is clearly teased at the end of this book? Yes I will.

It was an okay book, but compared to the first one, it didn't pack the same punch.

Perhaps when you set your expectations so high, you are bound to be let down.
Now, don't get me wrong. I wasn't let down all that much. In fact, I very much enjoyed this story. It was just as twisted as its predecessor but there were a few things that stood out to me that were bothersome.
- For one: it seemed more scattered. Passages were included that were completely irrelevant to the rest of the book and the plot. Example:
Spoiler(did the story of Grace Sunday have any relevance to the main plot? If it did, I can't seem to find any..)

- For two: it didn't feel as entrancing and I think this somewhat ties back to my first point. The side stories took me away from the main event and would cause me to lose interest.
- Last but not least —and this was a HUGE bother for me— there were one ten too many random references to Stephen King. It got to the point where each reference just made me more and more angry. Like we get it, you guys are friends.

Overall, it was still well worth the read and I quite enjoyed the journey, and the story is definitely set up for a third Boogeyman book to come.
