I didn’t like this as much as the first one, but I did still enjoy the premise! Like the first book, it was fun to read a description of somewhere in HarCo and know where it was. I did feel like the excerpts from Edgewood Looking Back were unnecessary, but I think that’s because Chizmar and I have very different feelings about our home counties.

2.5 stars. I am so disappointed. I really really liked the first book and was expecting similar for this installment but everything I liked about the first book (the novelty of the meta-commentary, the surprising ending, the looks into the author’s real-life childhood) didn’t hold the same magic in this book and just fell flat. The ending was also odd and abrupt. I would co spider reading the next book but I almost wish the first book was just a standalone at this point.

Chizmar has written a page-turning sequel to the fantastic Chasing the Boogeyman. I didn't know that Chizmar was setting up a series when I finished the first novel, but the continuation works. I still favor the first novel, but I have no complaints with the content and especially the ending. The novel is extremely tense and full of effective red herrings. I'm looking forward to what Chizmar has planned for the next novel.

A very good follow-up to the first in the series - I thoroughly enjoyed this read too!
