Love Amish's style of writing. Looking forward to the next book.

The story

This is a story of Ramayan, not from Ram’s point of view. It starts with the last scene where Sita is being kidnapped by Raavan.

Early Life

Ram was considered inauspicious by Dashrath and the people of Ayodhya because the day he was born, Dashrath lost his battle with Raavan. Manthara is shown as wealthiest in sapth Sindhu, as opposed to how she’s described in normal re-tellings, she had a daughter names Roshni who tied rakhi to 4 brothers.
Ram saved Dashrath’s life one day after that Dashrath started loving Ram. The killing of tadka is not there, Ram talked to Asura about their laws being obsolete and that their theory of Ekam should change with time. As ekam can't favour one over the others. This made Asura and tadka change their minds. They were ordered to travel west and live with vayuputras by Ram. That's how Ram convinced (not killed) tadka and her fellow Asuras.

Marriage

Ram visits Mithila. He saw Sita in the main city while she's solving a problem in a public gathering. She's skilled in martial arts, and she respects the law, this made ram fall for him.
Ravana came to swayamvar and was insulted. Ram was the first to participate in swayamvar. Mithila was attacked by Raavan and Vishwamitra insisted on using asurastra against Raavan which will paralyze his army. Ram reluctantly did so, but as per the law of lord Rudra, the user of Divya Astra will have to pay penance in exile for use of such weapons, as these weapons are highly destructive. When the news came to Dashrath that Ram is going into exile for this law, he was bewildered. Kaikayi on other hand uses this opportunity to install Bharat on the throne. A public announcement was made that has to go into exile for breaking the law.

Exile

In the dandakaranya, vibhishana and surpanakha came to visit Ram disguised as refugees. When surpanakha tried to kill Sita, Lakshman came in between and throw her, the nose of surpanakha was cut with her knife with which she intended to kill Sita. Then Parihar (troops of Hanuman) are on move to help ram and Lakshman before they're attacked by Raavan. Then Ravan comes and kidnapped Sita.

Characters

The character of Ram is shown as I had predicted earlier, as the ideal being. He is shown as Maryada Purushottam, a man who follow law & rules. Two major incidents in the story made the character look & feel like being ram.
The incident of Roshni being raped, dhenuka being a minor will not be executed as per law, deep down Ram too knew what was right but he still stuck to the law.
Another incident was when ram broke the law of lord Rudra, of using the asurastra. And self-imposed the exile.

Sita is shown as a bold lady, unusual to the way she’s portrayed in the normal re-telling of the epic. She too is shown as an upholder of the law. She is a fierce warrior.

Lakshman as a character is angry, savage, kind-hearted at the same time. The way he’s displayed in the book, the way he never cross-questions Ram is similar we find the TV version of the epic.

The character of Bharat is more practical Ram is idealistic. The way he argues with Ram with logic and reason, I fell in love with their conversation. It made me laugh a lot seeing Ram in dharmasankat.

What I liked

The birth of Ram is beautiful, the way it is described as he was born as a still child, but then Kaushalya embraced her he came to live, that is surreal. Amazing work. The father-son conversation between dashrath & ram was beautifully written. The conversation between Lakshman & Urmila is beautifully written. The part of execution is described in good details.

What I disliked

Although the book is all over a good work, the book failed to make me experience the epic, it was like whenever the two characters are having a conversation, the writing couldn’t make me experience the conversation. It lacked sensory involvement. The whole story felt like it was just narrated without engagement.

Questions the story raised

The law should always be upheld even the accuser’s action are brutal?
Is it really necessary to follow your elder’s instructions even when you know they are wrong?
What matters more, the word of the law or its essence?

Another great book!

The author is amazing. I really appreciate how delicately written his books are. Every conversation and description are well thought of. He is definitely a genius.

Another great book! I am finally starting this series and I am just grateful. The author said that he is grateful that the readers are giving him time by reading his book. However, I feel the honor is mine. How wonderful it is to read a book as great as Amish's.

This series are like the prequel of Shiva Trilogy. The incidents happen before Meluha's reign.

Ram is a refreshing character. He upholds law no matter what. He loves things in order. He doesn't approve of the freedom in Ahodya because he thought because of it people just do what they want, breaking the law because of freedom. I don't really agree with his strict law abiding way. However, I find his character heart warming.

Sita is also another wonderful character like Sati. A smart, beautiful, law abiding warrior like Ram. I am glad they met each other. I also love the fact that Ram will only love one woman for the rest of his life. It is just sweet. Sita and Ram is just perfect for each other.

Lakshman! Omg. I love him so much. He is just funny! His conversations with Ram is hilarious. I love how he thinks. So hilarious. I applaud his mother for choosing him to stick with Ram no matter what. I can also see how he loves his brother a lot. His loyalty to him is touching.

This book is recommended! Every book I've read from Amish should be read by all. They're all great!!!!
