Gave it around 100 pages and let it go. It seemed juvenile to me: gross for the sake of being gross. It has a rather mean spirited world view that I'm just not interested in reading about. The characters are all base and selfish and seemed flat and unbelievable to me.

I enjoy anthologies because the stories are consistently different. The endings will morph. Although I thought the book went downhill over time, it was still a unique read that I feel everyone ought to experience at least once in their lives.

I first tried reading Haunted but then put it down. Which I hate doing, so I pushed through it. I’m not disappointed by the book, just some of the chapters left me confused no matter how many times I reread paragraphs to try and figure it out. There were so many characters with nicknames which was also confusing trying to remember who was who and what their deal was. I highlight lines in books, and I did agree with some of the philosophical things written within the weird, and disgusting other things. A lot of the stories were completely out of the box, pure chaos and that’s what kept me reading no matter what. I wanted to know the next messed up story I was going to read. Honestly I definitely will not forget some of the stories I read in this book because they will “haunt” me forever. I have tried reading Palahniuk in the past, and couldn’t push through (but I was also a lot younger) and I’d say give this book a chance but also be prepared for the lot of characters, the disturbing stories, and just kind of saying “wtf?” The whole time. I don’t regret reading it, it’ll stick with me forever. Would I read it again? Definitely not.

It's very graphic and has some twists. NOT for the weak stomachs!

trashy and gross. sometimes in an intriguing way. i like the concept and some of the stories. a woman could have done this way better! too heavily reliant on the shock factor, adding extra blood and guts and sex when a little bit of subtlety would have gone a long way. easy to read, not like ... mentally, but i mean easy to slog through. except for the last chapter, just way too boring. also could have been shorter. overall i could have given it two stars but i'm feeling generous and to be fair i was at least mildly entertained through most of it. i just felt like it fell flat in a lot of ways. there was huge potential for deep and rich characterization, subtle exploration of the themes presented, but it felt like being whacked over the head with a bowling ball again and again. i guess maybe that's Palahniuk's whole schtick but, it's not for me. i don't really feel scared or pensive or enriched in any way, i feel like i read the male equivalent of a danielle steele book (no hate to danielle steele). the scariest part about this book is that the cover glows in the dark. oh, i feel dumber for having read this.
