A tender and thoughtful look at gender identity, queerness and fandom. It’s the kind of book we should press into young people’s hands not ban from our libraries and institutions. I have no time for bad faith readings and really hope that we as a book (and people) loving community are up for the fight on book bans that might be coming our way.

Instead of being banned, this should be required reading for every young adult.

i found so much of myself in maia's journey, but eir story is still uniquely eir own. i'm so grateful that books like this exist, and especially thankful for maia's radical openness and honesty

I love this so much and just want to buy copies for all the nonbinary/genderqueer friends in my life.

This book is amazing at portraying the thoughts and feelings that someone who is not cisgender and heteronormative goes through as they figure out who they are. Something that blew my mind: the brain and body may perceive gender differently (as referenced in the book "Touching a Nerve: Self As Brain", by Patricia Churchland, Ph.B.).
This was 2022's #1 most-challenged book in libraries. Stop banning books, open your mind, and let freedom read!

This book was an amazing read. The author's words and artistry come together in a beautiful way. I read this while struggling with my own gender identity, and even though I don't feel the exact same way the author does, it helped a ton to show me I'm not alone. That it's okay to be different, to feel "different". I am who I am. Gender is a beautiful thing to explore. There are limitless ways of expressing it. I am grateful to Maia Kobabe for writing/drawing this story and for fighting against the books bans by homophobic people. E is a fantastic person and I wish em all the best things in the world.
Graphic: Homophobia, Transphobia, and Dysphoria
Moderate: Sexual harassment

This is a very important book that has many themes that would be very useful to anyone that is struggling with gender. I liked all the discussions of gender and sexuality.
