Criminally off-topic. Only a chapter out of the whole book is about the dark web, and even in that chapter there was absolutely n o t h i n g new I have learnt.
This is such an interesting book!
Detailing everything about the goods and evils of the dark web and beyond.
There is so much that goes on beneath the surface of the internet including the trading of illegal goods, sites that promote assassination and the uprising of white supremacy.
The main dilemma is whether or not the anonymity of the encrypted web is good or bad, especially with new crypto-currencies such as Bitcoin meaning transactions are now becoming untraceable.
I also found the last chapter quite interesting as it compared to sides of the technology argument - transhumanists: those who are so passionate about the way of the future with technology that they wish to back up their minds to a fileserver and insert technology into their bodies - NEOLUTION ANYONE? and anarcho-primitivists: those who believe that technology is straying too far and that we need to go back to before it all began.

I'm not a technophobe, but I only access the very basics of the internet and computers in general, so I cannot account for the technical accuracy of this book. However, it was a very well written look at the dark side of the internet. The different subject matters all felt very relevant, although I was surprised at the lack of technical detail. In places the book felt a little 'dumbed down'. It was definitely worth reading though, and it really opened my eyes to how others use the internet.
Not the book I was expecting - due to my lack of reading synopsises, apparently - but a nice concise history of trolls, the Deep Web and other hidden wells of the internet.
Some chapters are better than others. Lots of new(to me) info.
