This man knows how to write horror that chills you to your bones while also keeping you on the edge of your seat.
Being a woman in Victorian England was definitely difficult, but how about being Transgender in Victorian England? With powers to "enter" and use the dead spirits of many?
Well stick that person in an asylum that wants to make him right and add in a messed up mystery to it.
If ya like what I just said - read it please.

THIS BOOK. i could actually say so much about it. truly a wonderful piece of writing. from the characters to the setting to the descriptions of things happening. i was hooked from beginning to end. also. support queer books <3
words can never explain the love i have for not only this book but the author, officially my favorite author and can not wait until Compound Fracture comes out.
I rarely see relatable trans characters to be honest as they all have severe dysphoria about their body. Like me though Silas' dysphoria comes from the fact the world sees him as a woman, not his body. I could never put my kind of dysphoria into words until then, which is something I'm incredibly grateful for.
I think I read this book in what, two weeks? the quickest I've read a book to be honest right next to Andrew's other book "Hell Followed With Us." The entire world-building aspect is incredible and I love the evenly mix of Andrew's amazing imagination of the Violet Eyed people and the Speaker Society with the actual Victorian era history.

OH MY GOD THIS BOOK WAS SO GOOD WHERE TO START. I loved the way this author wrote autistic characters and traits it resonated with me so much! I think the way he wrote gender dysphoria was also very good, but I’m cisgender so I can’t really speak on that. The misogyny was so challenging to read which is a testament to how well it was written. The metaphor for internalized misogyny and how self destructive it was be was beautifully done.
I was never bored for a single page in this book and couldn’t put it down. The haunting pages stuck with me and were some of my favorite parts. I also loved that there was at4t romance subplot!!
