This was a nice change of pace reading a book of very short essays. I didn’t always relate to everything she wrote about, but there were many moments and funny stories that I appreciated. I particularly loved this gem: “I’m not a monster I just want everything to be perfect. Is that so much to ask?” as well as the Lobsterman and Joy of Quitting chapters.

ModernMrsDarcy.com Summer 2019 Reading List

This is a book of essays/memoirs that is not only humorous but it gave me reasons to stop for a bit and evaluate my life and behavior. I particularly enjoyed Chapter 17: Rock You Like A Hurricane and Chapter 19: A Letter to the Type A Person in Distress (I believe she was talking directly to me). So funny! I love books that make be think and/or reminisce and this one certainly did.

2.9 Not terribly memorable or impactful. Blog post-esque.

Listened to audio version

I really enjoyed listening to the author's account of her life experiences. High achieving women would likely relate to multiple sentiments, on never feeling good enough & the constant pressure to be somebody else.

Working in healthcare, I appreciate her experience of syncope in chapter 8.

I felt she had good comedic timing & tone in her audio performance.

The writing was really good, but I just can’t gel with this style of book unfortunately.

Really enjoyed this short memoir. I didn't think I liked books of essays but through reading this I realized that I just hadn't read one before! I actually really liked the short, bite-sized sections that were easy to read. The content was light without being trite and serious without being overly heavy. It was a good book to read on a plane or to pass the time during a summer rain shower. I read this book after seeing it featured in the Modern Mrs. Darcy Summer Reading Guide and it was a great way to kick-off my summer reading!
