Can we just take a minute to admire this cover? Amazing! This is really one of the best covers of the year. It was the perfect cover for this book!
This book is set in New Orleans adding the perfect back drop for all the voodoo suspense in the novel. Voodoo witches, serial killers, strange voodoo gang members in the alley, oh my! The suspense in the novel jump off the page.
All the references to ancestral magic reminded me of an episode of the new CW series The Originals. This could be good or bad depending on if your a fan of the show. Personally, I think it added to the voodoo vibe minus the all the hybrid vampire -ish of the television series.
The only thing that annoyed me was the cheesy teenage relationship between the two main characters. But, I can't complain too much because it is a young adult novel.
If your into suspenseful young adult novels this one is for you!

Started off really weak and eyeroll-worthy, but ended up building into something I could get behind. Definitely going to follow this story.
