It's weird, introspective and kinda philosophical. The general mystery and plot are interesting but what really shines is the study of the protagonist character. A very intriguing read overall!

Overall enjoyable and I liked the commentary on human's relationships with animals and there were a few quotes that I wrote down from the book. The main character was strange but endearing.

I read this as a really interesting satire on abortion and the pro-life movement. Not sure if that was the intent but it sure was what my high brain was interpreting as I finished

I don’t know what to think about this book. In the beginning I really liked it, but the second half was quite boring to me, because I feel like this book just into an astrology manual at some point, and I honestly couldn’t care less about all of that.

As for Janina, I thought she was a very interesting character. She had these very strong ideas and principles but she was also a complete hypocrite at times.
For example, at some point in the book she gave this whole rant about how humans mistreat animals (which I actually agreed with), and how they turn their bodies into bags and shoes, etc. But then literally a few pages/chapters later she goes and buys a down coat and is then also bragging about how nice this down coat is??? Like, is she just stupid or a huge hypocrite. I also had my suspicions about her throughout the entire book, but I wasn’t sure how it would all make sense. Having finished the book, it does make a bit more sense now, but I wasn’t in the least bit surprised that she was the murderer.

Overall, I enjoyed the book (except for the astrology, and the holier-than-thou energy that Janina gave off), but it wasn’t my favourite. I do like that it won a noble prize because I feel like it did raise some important but also unpopular questions, and I guess I can see why some people would really love this book.
