I did appreciate the main character discussing animal welfare and political/church corruption but unfortunately my irritation towards people that say they don’t care at all about humans and only care for animals was too strong. Also I tried hard to enjoy her quirkiness and eccentricity but honestly I just couldn’t like her.

Pretty good murder mystery! An overall pleasant read, but I wasn’t really drawn in by the whole animals & astrology theme. Great setting, spooky writing, and good tension building, but at times it really did just feel like reading the rambling preachings of a scorned vegan. I don’t know if we’re supposed to empathize or agree with her at any point, but I found myself just sort of feeling disdainful pity by the end.
