I read this book before? I have no recollection. Which says a lot, right?

This time I listened to the book on audio. Mia Barron narrates the story. And I have to say, I will keep her name in my mind, and I won't be listening to her again. Her voice for Carlos, the vampire, is robotic and choppy. When he says something funny or finds humor in something said, it's choppy. It's like he's constantly telling something vital. Do. Not. Touch. The. Ghost.

There are a few characters but none of their voices are different enough or interesting.

While still a good book, this one fell a little flat for me, like maybe Kat's heart wasn't fully in it. I do hope that we see her return to writing, whether in this series or a new one. I've always liked how well researched hers novels are. I'd also like to see how she does outside of the Urban Fantasy genre.

The latest book for a series I read mostly for the Endeavour Award. There were plenty of interesting details in this one. Being in Portugal, a place I'm not familiar with. Ossaries. Bone Mages. But the whole book just felt off. Not sure if it was the pacing or the overall structure. Or perhaps being out of place. I just wasn't buying Harper. Or Quinton. Or Harper and Quinton. And I reached a point in which I didn't care and the last 80 pages were not fun to read. I think there were stories near this book I would have appreciated better, maybe a different pov.

A case where an author not being able to go on site for their research didn't hurt the sense of place or the flow of the book, and a fun read. Decent culmination to the series, and I'll look forward to the possibility of followup works later on.

This was a bittersweet experience - the last Harper Blaine novel, at least for a while. And while I do not begrudge Kat Richardson fro wanting to write something else, I will miss this series. But I can't wait to see what she writes next.

I got this from the library and it came at the perfect time. I think I will start a new reading tradition - every October, read one of the Greywalker series. It was perfect. I usually devour these, but this time I savored it and found myself purposely doing other things so that the book would last longer. In short, i loved it and will read it again!

I was really looking forward to reading this, having picked it up from a library sale I thought the premise sounded really intriguing and despite being part of a series the books mostly read as a standalone, like the first few Charlaine Harris books, Dan Brown books, or Jame Bond movies; unfortunately instead it was boring and predictable.
I won't go into the description of the storyline because the assumption is by the ninth book, there would be an understanding of the series over-arching storyline, so as a reader who hadn't read any of the others, this is what I have to say:
The characters were so two dimensional and the stupid jealous love triangle type thing was so unnecessary, tropey and again predictable. The dialogue was not at all funny or quirky, it was just boring and cringy and the descriptions went for pages.
Little disappointed, I thought if this was good I'd go back and get the rest of the series but no, not happening.
