I liked it. A lot.
Don't compare it to the other Harry books. It's not the same thing, it's a completely different format and a single story told in a single volume....not an epic 7 volume story.
I found myself sucked back into the world. I stayed up way later than I should have reading the book and loved that feeling.
If anything, it makes me earn for more Harry stories.

Listen, when Draco Malfoy is the best character in a book, it means something is off
I had so many wtf moments reading this, so many plot holes, just a lot of lazy writing. Add to that mischaracterisation and that incessant queerbaiting, just to do a 180 in the penultimate scene to make things (people) straight again and you'll have this book.
Also the German translation is just plain bad in many places, I could've done a better job with my one semester of anglistic studies ffs
All in all, kind of nostalgic, but the rage bait is taking overhand. The 2½ stars are for Draco, Ginny and Scorpius, the only reasonable people in this book (not counting Hermione bc she married Ron)
Ron gave his 14yo nephew a love potion (r00fies basically), saw that he was dating a 25yo and was like "good for him" that is a child, sir. A child that transformed into you, made out with your wife (his aunt!!) and asked her for another baby. Why the p€d0philia for "comedic effect", Joanne?

A little different read, but still the same enchanting world of magic. And of course a nice dose of our favorite people (albeit fictional).
I love Scorpius Malfoy with my entire heart. What a bean.
The plot, though? I felt it was spotty and not well thought out. Which makes enough sense, I guess. This is a dialogue-driven play and not a novel. But still, I felt the complexities and intricacies that made the original Harry Potter books so amazing and wonderful just weren’t there. JKR spent so long planning out and intertwining so many aspects of the HP universe from book one to book seven and because we’re all so used to that, this play just lacks so much in comparison. It’s obvious that as soon as they had the idea, they wanted to throw it together as quickly as possible.
I will say, I loved the characterization of each person. Harry was still Harry, Ron was still a goof, and Ginny’s fiery maternal instincts and common sense were probably some of my absolute favorite things to read. And did I mention that I love Scorpius with my whole heart? But still, even though it was so nice to finally (FINALLY) be able to read Draco Malfoy as a human being rather than the inherent monster JKR has condemned him to be (even while she continues to love Snape... but that’s another story), there was just a lack of depth there and in many of the other characters. When Scorpius met Snape, I thought Snape was wildly out of character. Even if he were fighting for Lily’s cause, he still wouldn’t have been so... kind. Severus Snape is a lot of things... but he’s not easily kind.
I did also love some of the topics that the play hit on that the books didn’t. The Dursley’s abuse was more evident, which I appreciated, as the books never really point out just how evil they were. Harry confronting Dumbledore’s manipulation and the damage he inflicted upon Harry was GREAT. I loved it. I shed a tear when Harry watched his parents die. That just really hit my heart where it hurts. Harry James Potter deserves so much. (And the fact that he found his baby blanket and made sure o be with it every Halloween? Someone please protect this sweet angel he’s been through too much trauma in his life.)
Overall I felt that the plot was spotty. The idea of Voldemort’s daughter is just too... fan fiction. Don’t get me wrong—I have read many amazing HP fanfics. But every single “Voldemort’s daughter” fanfic I’ve seen is just... not that great. The idea isn’t original. I vaguely knew before reading the play that it dealt with Voldemort’s daughter, but at some points I kept thinking, “What if Delphi is Bellatrix come to the future?” That seems more plausible to me. Again, since all of the HP books are so beautifully intertwined, the fact that there’s no basis for this in the books (and especially the seventh book), it just is not at all believable. Bellatrix gave birth the day before fighting in a huge battle? She was pregnant and not showing when she tortured Hermione at Malfoy Manor? Draco didn’t know anything about her existence despite the fact that she was born at his own house very probably in the presence of Narcissa and Lucius? k.
Also, I hated how mean Rose was. That is all.

what in the name of fanfic
As someone who absolutely loves the Harry Potter books, I'm not sure what took me so long to get to this. It could be the fact that it was written in script form for a play rather than a novel, but I've read plenty before like that so maybe that was just the excuse I made for myself. Either way, I'm super glad that I finally picked this up.
This book is just confirmation of how much I love this world and its characters. I feel transported every time I dive into any book in this series, and this one is no different.
Getting to know Harry's kids (especially one Albus Severus) was a joy. It felt like I was back at Hogwarts and while this didn't focus as much on the school aspect of things, that is still the setting of a big portion of this.
The story took some twists and turns that I enjoyed, but my one big complaint about this book is how it leans on things from the past. I'll leave it at that so as to not get to spoiler-y, but definitely I think it's OK maybe come up with some fresh ideas in this big wonderful world.
That being said, I do think it was easier to do since this was more of a one-off rather than a fully fleshed out series like the original.
There were some moments in this book that downright touched me to the core. Certain instances with Harry and also his son. I was impressed to no end with what was done with Draco in here too.
All in all this was a complete pleasure to read and anyone who loves the Wizarding World needs to give this a go if they haven't done so already.

Genuinely one of the worst things put to paper I've had the misfortune of coming across. Read only to be an informed hater. Hot garbage, from an already mediocre series.
This was so uncomfortable to start, as I firmly closed my doors on Harry's world (and went through the proper stages of grief, obviously). But I enjoyed this book, and I think it's storyline holds enough of a balance of both new and old plot details to entertain HP purists like myself. It is missing Rowling's wonderful narrative, being in drama form, so I only gave it 4/5 stars, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
