I have many feelings about this book. I can DEFINITELY see why people are saying it's basically just a fanfic... It definitely feels that way a lot of the time, but it's also largely because of the fact that it's a play! It's a SCRIPT. There isn't a lot of descriptive language which makes it feel very... off. It doesn't have the same magical atmosphere as the original stories. And the plot, well, it wasn't the best, but again -- it's a PLAY. not a novel. Just remember that.

4 stars, plus an extra .5 for nostalgia.
adventurous dark mysterious tense fast-paced

I had problems with some of the narrative choices but the story was fine I guess.

Changing my review in light of all the information I've been made aware of about the author. We don't support transphobia.

DID NOT FINISH

I hate to be one of those people, but I hated this book. In fact, I couldn't even finish it. That's all I've got to say tbh.

La vuelta a la infancia muy bien, gracias.

I don't really like this one. It pushes everything that has been astablished into shatters. But still it is enjoyable to read about the next generation of Harry Potter. Although I must admit I have read better fan fiction than this. And then I am talking about pretty low level fan fiction. In my eyes this book is just a printed piece of extremely bad fan fiction.

I'm so sad!

I loved it. I laughed, I cried, I read it way too fast and now I'm sad it's done. :(

Oh my, it was so great to be back!

Things I loved:
being back in the Wizarding World
Hermione (and Ron - Romione lives!)
Professor McGonagall
Scorpius "nerd" Malfoy
The Scorpius/Albus brOTP *sigh*
This line - "There's a silence. A perfect, profound silence. One that sits low, twists a bit and has damage within it." (p. 21, Act 1, Scene 4)

Things I didn't love so much:
Some of the transitions were a bit iffy
My poor Harry unhappy and stressed
Missed opportunities
SpoilerI mean, Albus and Scorpius totally gave off a gay vibe for the entire play! And then their last scene they talk about girls?!?! COME ON ALREADY!

All in all, I enjoyed this, though it was by no means perfect. I didn't necessarily need it, but I'm definitely glad that we got it! :)

A lot of complaints (from myself included) about this not being from the so-loved series' original author. I do love reading screenplays, so no complaints there either. I believe my expectations were simply set too high - me being such a fanatic of the wizarding world and Harry Potter - and I was let down badly. It felt rushed, it didn't have the same magical Hogwarts feeling that draws everybody in closely, and some details about the characters simply weren't right. Did you really think we wouldn't notice? We pay attention to our favorites. Could've done much better.
