An eternity of indifference. Every story sounds exactly the same as the next and it can sometimes drag out and if you're listening to it you'll fade into the void and forget what's going on. There were some moments that made me chuckle despite my complaints.

I really enjoyed this particular narration of the story. The voices were very well done.

Years ago, sometime in the mid- to late 1980s, I read this book while commuting from our home in the suburbs to Brooklyn Heights. The commute was a long trip - a 35-45 minute train ride to Grand Central followed by about a 20-30 subway ride to the Heights - and at the end of the day it was the same or longer to come home. I read a lot of lengthy books during those years, and Don Quixote was among the tomes that took me beyond my seat on Metro North to realms elsewhere.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book - the story and the writing, aided in no small part by my love of the musical Man of La Mancha. Reading the book occasionally summoned some of the musical's songs, but always - always - the book won out over my imagination.

It has taken me this long, almost 34 years later, to enter the book in my feed. When I moved my catalog of read books online, I had to reconstruct from memory books read in the past. Thought I included them all, but apparently not, as doing a search did not show it in my list. Reading a review by Sherry Beth Preston prompted my search, and NOW there is my review. :-)

Don Quixote

I thoroughly enjoyed the first part of this book, but the second part dragged on. It really felt like Cervantes said all that he wanted to about the characters in book one and was mainly venting his annoyance at those who appropriated his characters in book two.

6/5.

This is quite simply the greatest thing I’ve ever read.
