One of the funniest books I've ever read and it's over 400 years old. Don Quixote is a Knight in a time when knights were no longer around. After reading all the stories on knights (and remembering as if they were histories) he take up the mantle of knight-errantry. except he's a wee bit mad. He plays the classic comedic straight man when all those around him see him as the buffoon he really is. His squire, Sancho Panza, straddles the line between sanity and madness. They have many a ridiculous adventure. It was a bit tough to read, what with all that melodramatic speaches and all, but it was really well written.

Driven mad by hearing too many chivalric episodes - I couldn't get through this audiobook!

First 40% excellent, drags for the rest of it, but picked up at the end. Looking at all the Greek references in the notes at the back is maybe the best part.

I've finished with the first volume of Don Quixote De La Mancha and found this book quite easy and interesting to read. It's the classic adventure of a madman: the "renowned Don Quixote de la Mancha." He attacks windmills, believes a peasant girl to be a lady, and fancies that he is a knight-errant, dedicated to righting wrongs and rescuing damsels in distress. To my mind, Don Quixote is one of the greatest protagonists of the world literature ever. So I hope that the second volume is just as good as the first one...
