It's hard to write about a book that is so many things. Witty and satirical even 400 years later. Cervantes manages to make me love Don Quixote and Sancho more than I thought I ever would. Reading this will suddenly reveal to you just how deeply ingrained in modern stories is this story. This story can make one laugh and cry and wish they had the bravery to be mad

Been working on this book since August-ish, 2023. Good, just long, and some sloggy parts in the middle. Pretty hilarious all around, though, and meta-sections pretty interesting for a contemporary of Shakespeare (though WS also pretty meta at times).

I think we all approach big classics with a lot of preconceived ideas, and this was so much more charming, readable and moving than I expected (read partly in English translated by John Ormsby and partly in Czech by Jozef Felix).

I feel guilty only giving it 2 stars (okay, 2.5) but that's how much (or how little) I liked it. It's such an important book but I didn't enjoy its particular brand of humor or the constant sexism.

This book seriously made me want to gouge my eyes out. Very few books have done that.

“When life itself seems lunatic, who knows where madness lies? Perhaps to be too practical is madness. To surrender dreams — this may be madness. Too much sanity may be madness — and maddest of all: to see life as it is, and not as it should be!”

4,5* Pierwszy tom z pewnością lepszy od drugiego. Jednak to ile ta książka dała mi komfortu i chwilowego odetchnięcia sprawia iż z uśmiechem wspominam jej lekturę
