This is one example of a pattern I've noticed among my favorite books—I love to read about characters who irritate me. I wrote a college application essay about all the ways Jane makes me loathe her. I almost resent that things work out for her in the end. But I think I like *thinking* about her so much that I remain her "dear reader."

I found this quite pleasant to read, I'm always a bit nervous when I start to read any classic because sometimes they tend to be a bit dry in writing style and difficult to get through, but that wasn't the case here. I think Jane is great especially for the time period which this was written. She knows what she wants and that's that. It wasn't the most exciting book/plot (some of that probably has to do with being written in the 1800s) but it was enough so to keep me hooked. The romance between Jane and Mr. Rochester was a bit weird for me at first, but as the book went on it grew on me and I felt that Mr. Rochester did actually care for Jane.

This was a great book. I liked it mostly because I could so easily relate to Jane and yet I could see her perfect values and qualities.
