I don’t think I’ve ever read such an impactful book. I’m almost too stunned to think rn. There’s so much to take away from this and I feel as though I’ve just had years worth of life experience in these 24 hours. I love this book. It’s genius and unlike any I’ve read before. I was crying non-stop the last few chapters too.😪😮‍💨 I will be thinking about this indefinitely. At least, it will definitely distract me from my nearing exam(this is a bad thing, my mother would say).

This book emotionally wrecked me and I don’t think I could be more grateful for it. You can tell it was made with so much heart and care for the characters. Evelyn is the mysterious starlet you come to know and love. You come to love Monique quickly and deeply, almost as much as you end up caring for her. The mix of the two is so fun to read and makes the story so interesting. The conflict at the end hits you so hard but leads to a great conversation about grieving and how memories affect our opinions of other people. The only reason it’s not a 5-star is cause I found some of the pacing wonky and it took more time than anticipated to get into. But, I would recommend it to anyone and everyone.

It felt like Carrie Soto was a copy of Evelyn, but why does this writer keep writing about white latin women and pretending the world sees them as brown?

This book is mesmerizing from start to finish. I loved the old Hollywood references, the voice Jenkins Reid gave to Evelyn, and how it felt accurate to the character and the time she would have lived in without feeling dated or out of touch. I really couldn't put it down.

Wow. Read this one in two days. I couldn’t put it down. Not at all what I expected it to be. Love the complexity of both loving/empathizing with Evelyn and also completely not understanding/disliking her. Complex characters going through complex things. But also put in a matter of fact way (or maybe it’s because it’s someone telling about their past?) so that you don’t sit there disagreeing with the path the author chose. It doesn’t feel like ‘a path the author chose’, rather these feel like real people.

I’m seeing that there’s to be a Netflix adaptation of the book. Books to movies don’t always turn out well, but I think this could be done very well if given a good budget. Nervously excited to see what comes of it.
