I cried at the end. Every character is so bloody unlikeable, the relationships quite toxic, and yet you kind of can’t help but root for some of them.

I don’t think this is actually that amazing of a book, it’s certainly not life changing. But the ending still got me and it sucked me in, in that way watching reality tv does.

The way I feel about this book in the moments after finishing it feel like an oxymoron, I feel emotional yet all I’ve done is complain about it. I think it’s the sort of book I’ll think of occasionally but never plan on re-reading.

I also hated the first 3ish chapters of this, the initial set up was incredibly boring.

Edit: upon reflection I’m pretty sure the reason I cried so much was pms and sleep deprivation

The writing was easy to follow and almost read like fanfictions to me (not in a bad way. nothing has made me cry like some fanfics have). The beginning I was like “ugh why was this recommended I’m done with booktok” but toward the second half I liked more. It is an interesting way to talk about old Hollywood. The switch from current to Evelyn in the past was a bit annoying to follow at times on my ebook version unsure about physical copies. It wasn’t bad. Wasn’t the best thing ever. I enjoyed myself. That’s all that matters.

I would never say that this book surprised me. But it’s not necessary for the type of book this is. In fact it’s actually a credit to this book that I was never surprised. Everything that happens has its purpose and is a consequence of a choice made.
This is a tragedy through and through and while I did not feel sad I was broken-hearted
Great book
