I wanted to love this book after reading the plot and seeing rave reviews, but it was not for me. It took some time to get into, and even then, the characters were unlikable. The story was clunky and repetitive. A member of my book group said it reads like a bad Lifetime movie, and I couldn't have said it better myself.

This is the kind of book where you can just pick up and read it for 2 days non stop. scandalous, raw, and complex. the story ofc is about the title but also mainly covered on how queer community being seen in the 50’s, from the perspective of hollywood star that has to deal with career and fame. so if you are interested in bi marilyn monroe, this is the book. i can’t fill up my head with other depiction because evelyn and marilyn had the same description in some part.

The story and character is very complicated, but the author describe every feelings with much detailed. so you kinda don’t have any option other than understand why they’re making each desicion, no matter how ridiculous it might seems.

Though for the plot twist, since i am a overthinker (lol)
i personally saw the plot twist coming from far away, so it is ain’t shocking and pretty predictable for me but i’m still left speecless at the end.

And kids, moral of the story is; never ever trust anything they say on media.

Es muy hermoso, todo el mundo debería darle una oportunidad a este libro.
Una historia de amor y de dolor al mismo tiempo. Les aseguro que van a amar a evelyn y van a odiar a muchos otros personajes.

Wow. Read this one in two days. I couldn’t put it down. Not at all what I expected it to be. Love the complexity of both loving/empathizing with Evelyn and also completely not understanding/disliking her. Complex characters going through complex things. But also put in a matter of fact way (or maybe it’s because it’s someone telling about their past?) so that you don’t sit there disagreeing with the path the author chose. It doesn’t feel like ‘a path the author chose’, rather these feel like real people.

I’m seeing that there’s to be a Netflix adaptation of the book. Books to movies don’t always turn out well, but I think this could be done very well if given a good budget. Nervously excited to see what comes of it.

I enjoyed her various love stories in all their forms. I was not a fan of the ending and I am sensitive to the topic of cheating so this wasn't my thing.

This still holds up upon re-read which definitely says something. I loved the way the book was sectioned into each husband and the story revolving around the time Evelyn married them. I realise the Evelyn is a bit of a polarising character perhaps, but I love the depth of her character, and how even though she’s the forefront of the story, we still got to understand Monique’s character well in fewer words. The last few chapters or so were definitely the best in the book, and touched on some very important topics, but it definitely does require some content warnings.
