I typically love books where women are unhinged, and as a psychology student I can relate to the students in the book and agree that if Dorthy was a real case I would be interesting to try and “study her”.
However the way the book was written just made it hard for me to enjoy it and immerse myself into it. It had a pompous writing style, describing things in a way more complex way than needed. I also did not like the timeline, it was very winding in circles, beating around the bush style. The time jumps were not labeled so it was hard for me to keep track where we were in the story.
That is to say it is definitely a story about an intelligent, interesting and conniving woman. If you can look past those faults then this is a great book!

I was so excited to read this book but in the end I had to force myself to not DNF it. It’s a really interesting premise and some parts really drew you in. But the story was slow and the words used were the biggest synonyms to simple words. In the end I enjoyed the relationship with Emma but I would have enjoyed more of it. It read like a student who had a 10 page paper due and only wrote 6 and it’s due tomorrow. Things were so drawn out I basically skimmed my way to the end.

some bits of great writing hidden in (hopefully) intentionally pretentious writing.

If you loved the visuals of Hannibal and felt a tiny bit guilty that your mouth watered at that show, do I have a book for you.
