If I support women's wrongs was a book genre, this is high on the list as one of faves. Satirical deranged and fun.

I could not get over the pretentious writing. I understand that the author was trying to show the egocentrism of this character, but it was obnoxious to read. Also, I don’t eat meat, and so the constant describing of food had me feeling grossed out and bored (not the cannibalism, the actual food). Finally, I was really uncomfortable with the way that she talked about the ONLY POC in this book. She describes her dreadlocks as Medusa snakes, and basically has nothing nice to say, and then literally in the next chapter she is praising how beautiful her blond lawyer is. Maybe it was an intentional choice, but then she starts talking about her white privilege in prison as if she’s woke, so I’m not sure that it was. Regardless, I didn’t like it.

A comic horror novel written as a cannibal food critic's memoir, reminiscent in ways of American Psycho, darkly funny in places and deeply off-putting in others. Very vivid writing style and truly excellent food descriptions were a delight to me, but my reading experience was somewhat marred by the book's reputation as a feminist girlboss-type story, especially when considering the fact that the protagonist (who, don't get me wrong, is as entertaining as they come, but most certainly not a girlboss in my mind) actively commits a hate crime.

was so disappointed in this! it’s been compared to books I love and I love an unlikeable protagonist so much, but the voice of the protag irritated me so much that I couldn’t be fascinated by her. she bored me. maybe that’s the point - I have read a lot about true crime and serial killers do tend in reality to be boring.  maybe it’s because I don’t romanticise food myself so the language and descriptions didn’t work on me. idk! also emma absinthe’s art sounds awful and I couldn’t tell if the book was in on that lol
