I thought this was...just fine. Maybe it had been oversold to me before I got a chance to read it. I get the whole maneater thing, and the bit about the friend, Emma, was pretty interesting, but overall I found the writing to be pretentious and formulaic. It was longer than it needed to be by 50-100 pages.

There was a bit about Dorothy being straight but enjoying awakening other women? Idk it was weird, and if more was meant to be alluded to there, it fell flat. For me personally, I did not get much out of reading about a wealthy psychopath straight white woman and her wealthy friend and her wealthy lovers/exlovers. I did appreciate the author's commitment to taking on the main characters tone.

the casual, "fascinating" rape scene was absolutely unnecessary.
after the fourth "labia-pink" color description, I couldn't roll my eyes far enough back in my head

This was a really fun read, however the main character is (due to her nature) someone I find intensely unlikeable. The description is fun and wild, and full of gore and torrid sex. I personally dont enjoy constant discussion of genitals outside of smut, and this book had a lot of reflections on genitalia (but this lines up well with the main character).
I'm a vegetarian, and this book at least intrigued me with all the meat and recipe talk. Definitely made me hungry.

Came for the cannibalism. Stayed for the enduring legacy of female friendship.

this book reminds me there is nothing more poetic than a raging psychotic woman. I laughed out loud, I cried at the very end and leaving away my prose: it made my fucking week. I loved it, it was raw ( no pun intended) with the criticism of what we deem correct, or moral, while also managing to even in the most sordid moments to force the reader to feel identified with a cannibalistic female who lacked empathy or emotions. A new favorite. Dorothy Daniel’s, you are the most ravishing competent woman in this murderous fictional world.

This book was beautifully written and grotesque. It was both funny and unbelievably unhinged. It made me laugh and cringe, and feel sad. It was just so good. There were some sections that were difficult for me to get through but as a whole this is such a solid piece of literature and such a good addition to the "unhinged woman" literary sub genre.
