This was a challenging read. The back and forth between days, and knowing that something horrific was going to happen, left me with such a creeping dread. I would read a few pages, then close it. But a few minutes later, curious, I would pick it back up. I do think that the Epilogue was a little too neat. I was glad for the resolution and definitely didn’t want to read about the missing days, but I felt disheartened that the ending was a little too easy in terms of Grace’s mental and physical trauma.

This is an incredibly important story. There is no reason anything like this should happen.

This book had me on the edge of my seat, and I marathoned the audiobook in only two sittings. Listening to fiction as an audiobook can be hit-or-miss for me, but this one was excellently narrated.
I was nervous that this story would be too dark for me, but somehow it felt like the topics were handled just right. The characters feel real and complex, the story both heartbreaking and hopeful. I appreciated the afterword too, which provides added context about the inspiration for the story and about the reality of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls.

Narration seems painfully amateurish. I’d be curious to try reading a text version and see if it’s good.

I enjoyed this quite a lot! Really surprised it's a debut too. It's so emotionally rich and the world building was great. I wouldn't call this a true horror novel but definitely a thriller with elements of horror and magical realism. Love that this is from an Indigenous author who tied in so many cultural aspects, including struggles and challenges of living on a reservation. Also loved that this spotlighted the MMIW epidemic in an interesting way and highly recommend the author's note as well. The second half of the book was particularly great, I was riveted waiting to see what would happen. I also really loved the exploration of Anna being Two-Spirit and wish we could have seen more of that! The dual plotlines were difficult to follow at first, and I had to go back and catch up on things a few times, but once I figured it out pretty early on it was smooth sailing the rest of the way.
