What a good book. A classic mystery set in modern times. And very meta, if you like meta humor. It knows what it is and talks about it often. A very entertaining read and a great mystery that doesn't cheat!

Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone has to be one of my favorite audiobooks. The narrator was amazing, and this writing style translated so well to the spoken word.

Ernest (Ernie) Cunningham is going to a family reunion in an isolated location in the middle of winter. Nothing could go wrong... right? Well, with the full cast of Cunningham characters and their sordid pasts, Ernie knows something terrible is bound to happen. At the beginning of the book, Ernie promises to be a fair and reliable narrator, and he does keep that promise as he follows Ronald Knox's 10 Commandments of Detective Fiction along with his own "rules."

The dark humor and witty banter of this novel kept me at rapt attention as I devoured this novel. The author winks at readers through the page without quite breaking the fourth wall, and I loved reading into every single "truth" laid out by the characters. Fans of the show Sherlock will likely eat this up.

If you haven't read this yet and enjoy audiobooks, I highly recommend you read it through that format.

It's really hard to listen to a book about a ski lodge near Jindabyne, full of references familiar to anyone who ended their primary school stretch with the snowy trip, and then also get hit with parking lot (it's a carpark) and trunk (it's a boot). There's enough local slang and local references in the work for the American terms to stand out to the point of being utterly jarring and somehow instantly relocating entire scenes to the US.

The overall style is great, the reader is great, the little nods to audiobook listeners is very appreciated. Just, I don't know, someone needs to frown at the editor or the publisher for either not catching this or suggesting it was necessary.
