The book was intriguing enough that I wanted to finish it.  But it could easily have been 100 pages shorter and all the better for it.  I found the action and spells drawn out and repetitive.

Ugh I love Agnieszka so much - the little ways she vexed the Dragon had me laughing out loud. I read this book in about a day and a half because I just could not stop reading. It’s so action packed you almost don’t get a moment to breathe, but somehow it doesn’t feel like it’s too much or too fast. The conflict and the antagonist are delightfully complicated; every time you think Agnieszka is doing the right thing, somehow it gets turned on its head and becomes disastrous. As always, Novik’s prose is so beautiful and vivid that I could picture every monstrosity and panorama in glorious detail.
