There are a lot of perfectly interesting rom coms out there, but it's pretty rare to find one that feels fresh and new. The unique location and microculture really make this book something special. Maggie's life living within the literal walls of the Tower of London is absolutely fascinating. The author brings her personal perspective of living amongst the royal guards to imbue the story with fantastic details.

Not gonna lie I did love the writing but the ending just felt really rushed. The chemistry almost seemed to disappear towards the end.

The synopsis of this one was so cute, and sounded like it would be right up my alley! I love books set in London with historical facts thrown in! Unfortunately this one fell a little flat for me. I loved the historical stories the author included and how detailed the setting descriptions were. I felt like I was right there with Maggie! And the map at the beginning was super helpful, I may just have to bring it with me on my next Tower of London visit! Maggie had a great character ARC. However, I found her a bit overly dramatic, self-deprecating, and self-indulgent at times. Freddie was sweet but his distance at first was off putting. And then suddenly he was always there. It felt a little disingenuous. I liked their banter and friendship, but I didn’t feel their chemistry. Maggie kept mentioning how she felt about him, but I honestly didn’t feel it. I didn’t miss the spice in this one. The pacing of the plot was a bit all over the place. In the beginning it dragged and I had a hard time getting into it. Then it sped up, and I felt like I missed something for how quickly it was moving. The ending was sweet and fit the characters well. I appreciated how the epilogue showed how things worked out for Maggie.
