Veronica Roth

3.65 AVERAGE

adventurous dark emotional mysterious tense medium-paced

this was gonna be a 3.5 stars but the ending was just so bad. They crammed as many plot twists to get a sequel out of it as Veronica Roth could. it didn’t rly add anything to the YA genre, and had a semi-predictable plot. But it was a nice, easy read, and I don’t think the author ever wrote “mc released a breath they didn’t realize they were holding” so there’s that. I like the world and the concept. Akos’ POV was so boring tho.

Not really sure what's going on, something about powers and fate? Too much happening before getting a lay of the land/world building for me personally.

The romance in this book is good, the world building is amazing, the characters are developed, and the story is entertaining. Not the greatest book I've ever read but still up there pretty high. Can't wait to read the second one!

I really struggled to get into this. It didn't pick up for me until the halfway point and even then it wasn't enough for me to really enjoy it.

I'm a bit shocked that I liked this, judging by the last Veronica Roth book I read...But this was good! It did feel a bit like a Shatter Me ripoff at times (Cyra and Akos kind of felt like if Juliette and an Adam/Warner mix were given each other's personalities). But the world and plot made up for that. Akos's fate does have me scared for the sequel, though. I'm praying Roth had learned her lesson from Allegiant.

A complicated epic fantasy set in another world by the author of the popular Divergent series. I enjoyed it, though I'm not a big fan of epic fantasies - those who are will like it even more! Here's my full review:
