Ganz klare Leseempfehlung!

Synopsis after review
This was a very good retelling of And Then There Were none. The writing kept me on the edge of me seat until the end of the book. If you read the Agatha Christie this novel is based on there are not a lot of twists you won't see coming, as it stays pretty close to the plot beats of the original. The author also obviously had something to say about the world of social media influences, it just wasn't very origina.l I would have liked a twist that I didn't see coming, but all in all a solid YA mystery.
A group of 10 young influencers are invited to an island for the grand opening of a new resort. When said influences arrive they realize something is off, and then begin to die one at a time. Why were they invited, and why has the killer targeted them?

I was ready to love this book. I feel like it started off strong but I hated the ending…
10 influencers are given an invitation to something called the Unknown Island, an exclusive resort, and they soon find out that they are trapped on the island with a killer and lots of secrets.
I thought this was creative as a YA thriller, enjoyed the tropics vibes, and I liked how everyone's backstory was revealed through the book. It also prompts some interesting thoughts on influencers and their ability to get out of consequences for crimes, as well as how people who consume the content of influencers and how they react to something happening to them. ()
However, there were a lot of characters to keep track and I kept having to look back at the list in the beginning of who was who, and also to the, as well as their backstories all getting revealed at once and having to keep track of that. I personally couldn't keep track of it all and I was struggling to remember which character was who and what they were called "influencers" for, let alone all the other stuff.
I assume the book was supposed to be open ended as to who organized the Unknown Island and all that? There is a fake Reddit thread in the last chapter discussing who it could have been,. TBH I could have done without that part of the character's reaction to the speculation and just ended on knowing and the speculation around the whole event, especially where it seemed to me like it was supposed to be a bit open ended.
Other than the ending, the book was like a fun slasher flick in book form, and I enjoyed that aspect of it. It was a fast paced and entertaining enough of a read, and it had the tropical vibe I was looking for at that moment. If you want that vibe and especially if you like thriller/slasher stuff, you will probably enjoy it.

Holy hell. I DEVOURED this. Read it in one day and couldn't put it down.
I had heard it was a fantastic ATTWN homage and wanted to give it a try. It more than delivered. I was a little worried at the start because it felt like it was dragging. It took us a while to get to the threatening island message lol.
But once we got there it didn't let up for a minute. I absolutely loved that, while it hit all the major beats of ATTWN, it wasn't a perfect match-up. Meaning, some characters were clearly supposed to be remixes of the Christie characters (ie Chelsea = Marston, Margot = Emily Brent) but even if you worked those out based on backstories (hit and run, letting an employee die), you weren't guaranteed to know when or how they would die. Yes, Chelsea and Margot died like Marston and Emily Brent but Margot died way earlier than Emily did. And then you have someone like Robby. Robby's story clearly makes him the MacArthur character (killed the guy his girlfriend cheated with), but he dies like Rogers (stabbed in the back), while Graham is killed the way MacArthur is (in the boathouse with boating equipment). And then some characters didn't have clear counterparts. So until right before the end, I had no idea who our Wargrave was.
I took notes. I wrote down who I thought and while I put Celia and Frankie down as our Armstrong and Wargrave, I had them reversed.
Once Celia died, though, I knew. Justice was Armstrong (which made sense with her medical knowledge), and was lying about Celia being dead. Justice goes missing, we all think it's her. Xander dies like Blore. Frankie and Manny fight over the gun, Manny gets shot, Frankie kills herself (with a little help).
I LOVED that we did the original ending and it didn't turn out that Manny and Frankie were okay.
I'm unsure how I feel about Celia surviving, and the interview bit at the end dragged a bit. But I thought her revealing how she did it on a Reddit post was brilliant. Of course she'd want them to know how clever she was. And of course it would lead to her saying too much (like that Frankie was actually suffocated). The hubris. Chef's kiss.
I wish maybe there was a more concrete motive but I had a fucking great time and am seriously contemplating buying it to mark up.
4.5 rounded all the way up. Wow.

This is a modern retelling of And Then There Were None.
Overall an enjoyable read! At times the writing was too heavy-handed including the egregious gen Z caricatures and the book starting with far too many character bios to keep straight. Still, it is a fun mystery with a social media twist. Hoped for a better ending, but enjoyed the journey.
