This was so good, somehow even better than book 1. The Fires of Vengeance expands both the world and characters so that both had more depth, while still delivering back to back action scenes. This book definitely doesn't suffer from second book syndrome. My only regret was waiting before starting Fires of Vengeance, and I struggled to remember some of the minor characters and a lot of the "lore"/ world structure. I can't wait to read the rest of this series.

Thanks Evan Winter, I now think about Tau and this series EVERY day!! 😩 Utterly galvanizing. We picked up right where one left off and Winter found a way to make everything I loved about The Rage of Dragons even better in book two!!

"How is that good enough?"He took her hands in his. “It isn't. It isn't good enough and nothing will be for a while, because that's part of what loss is, an absence of goodness and happiness that can't be reasoned with or diminished."

This story was an incredibly exhilarating and emotional. Many folks who had gripes on wanting more world building and character development will definitely see that here. The Fires of Vengeance was more of a slow burn in comparison, but still a wild ride nonetheless!! Easy back to back 5⭐️ whether via audiobook or physical copy. One of my favorite reads and series this year by far.

I liked the first book better. This one didn't have as many hard hitting lines. Buuut this book did help me get over a book hangover I had. I found the plot interesting overall.

I really loved this sequel, to me it was better than the first book which doesn't happen a lot, but the series was strenghtened by the new characters, and though I had a couple of gripes (
for instance after a few chapters the pain in Tau's leg stopped being mentioned which didn't seem super realistic, and Kellan's character seemed to kind of vanish
) I really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the sequel, and though I really like Tau and the queen, I do hope that the Hedeni have justice in the end.

A line I liked:
“How is that good enough?”
He took her hands in his. “It isn’t. It isn’t good enough and nothing will be for a while, because that’s part of what loss is, an absence of goodness and happiness that can’t be reasoned with or diminished.”
