In the author's opening personal remarks in his own words “Modern education includes morality; therefore the modern child seeks only entertainment in it's wonder tales and gladly dispenses with all disagreeable incident. Having this thought in mind, the story of “The Wonderful Wizard of OZ” was written solely to please children of today. It aspires to being a modernized fairy tale, in which the wonderment and joy are retained and the heartaches and nightmares are left out. L. Frank Baum, Chicago, April 1900.”
Now over 100 years old and counting the story itself is creative and the foundation for one of the greatest entertainment movies ever made. The story has some of the same characters although not as deeply developed and the screenwriter/s did an excellent work in the changes that were made to make it a marketable visual. Basically, I enjoyed the story but I loved the movie with all it's memorable scenes and music. The black and white scenes moving to the colorful land of Oz, then back to black and white. The book listed silver shoes but we will always remember Dorothy Gale clicking those ruby red slippers. And of course a song still sung today “Somewhere over the rainbow”.
