For a children’s book this was a bit darker in places than I had perhaps  realised - a lot more chopping the heads off things and people than in my fave, the film version 😂 but a cute little story with a good message at its heart.

A valuable scholarly resource, but as a gift book, a little too jam-packed with information for pleasure reading. The original text gets somewhat buried beneath the mountain of (admittedly interesting and well-researched) background information and literary criticism.

Ah, trivia! Never knew the shoes were originally silver! Coolio. I also love the adventures that are in the book that didn't make it into the movie.
