Thank you Simon and Schuster Australia for gifting me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I ADORED this book. I was honestly hooked right from the start and I read it entirely in one sitting.
Mandie was such a great MC. I love seeing female MC’s like this. She cried a lot, she had low self esteem, she was a people pleaser, she didn’t have it all together. And she was shown as being strong and capable and brilliant and, most importantly, worthy of love. It’s not just independent, no-bullshit characters who deserve the limelight. Mandie was written with so much compassion and honesty and I loved her so, so much for that authenticity.
And Dylan, hooooboy, she was such a good love interest. I felt the same spark Mandie felt honestly from the first moment they met. Dylan is exactly the kind of person Mandie deserves - someone who props her up instead of feeding on her flaws and insecurities. Dylan was fierce and loyal and headstrong and compassionate and kind of somewhat the opposite of Mandie without it ever feeling like a stark contrast. They complimented each other perfectly.
The romance was just the right mix of heady and slow burn. The spark was instant, but it took a while to actually get there, which I always enjoy. It’s that queer yearning that I live for. Mutual pining at its finest.
There were so many fun side characters in this book, too, and I definitely need to read the first one. (Yes, this can be read as a standalone).
This one’s out April 5. Make sure you grab a copy!

Having read the first book 'Here for the right reasons', it was interesting to see the competition from Dylan G and Mandie's perspective. Now need to read Lilly's story!!

Such an easy and light read set in the reality tv world. Whilst I recently read a similar layout of book, I still found this unique. I absolutely loved this, but did feel like there was some repetition in the book that kind of lost me. Other than that, Mandie’s character arc was so precious and I absolutely adored it.

A lgbtqia+ rom com set on the tv set of “Marry me, Juliet” (Think the Bachelor Australia) only Mandie our protagonist is there to fall for the Romeo, not another contestant.
And thus we enter the world or backstage reality tv with Mandie trying to get though a tv show all the while being plagued by her quickly developing feelings for her best friend in the house, as well as the emotional abuse from her ex that keeps springing into her consciousness.
The book is a fun look at reality tv, all the while shining the light on emotional abusive relationships and their long term effects.
I did find not all ends of the story were wrapped up well but I have since learn this is actually a second book in a series where we are reliving the same season of the show but this time from the POV of different characters.
The book was set around 2020 at the start of the pandemic in Australia which I wasn’t really fond of (as a healthcare worker I’m very much over it!) but I understand how it was needed for some of the plot.
A good quick read and nice to see some lgbtqia+ representation. Hopefully we find out what Lilly was up to and why Murray is so sleep deprived in a future book.
