Here's the deal. I love Anthony Bourdain's show. LOVE it. But for some reason, I just couldn't get into this book. It's a shame. Maybe it's just something I need to come back to later.

An interesting insight of this author's tour around the world, looking at different aspects of food preparation, and what makes culinary perfection.
Is it experiencing a pig being slaughtered in rural Portugal for the village, the street food of Cambodia, the consuming the potentially fatal blowfish sushi in Japan. Is it the consuming the customised cuisine in a four star restaurant.
Anthony explores all this and perhaps found the culinary navada is a combination of the journey, the friends, the experiences to get the ingredients, preparation, and the moment to enjoy.
The book has many great stories, which sometimes is not for squeamish, but you know this for this is Anthony Bourdain, and not some 'vanilla' celbrity chef/ food writer.

Anthony Bourdain was a flawed, intelligent, haunted man, a fantastic cook, and a brilliant writer. Here, he travels the world, falls in love with Vietnam, eats great food, and sees the truth and bias of food culture. This is the basis for the work of the rest of his tragically short life. Comical, real, and haunting in some ways.

This book reads like a season of Parts Unknown. Vietnam sounds like the coolest place in the world. Shout out to Bourdain for being ahead of the curve and hating on Kissinger all the way back in 2001. All the homies hate Henry Kissinger.

This was a great memoir and probably the more enjoyable travel writing I have ever read. Crude and truly Bourdain, I felt like I was there traveling along with him.
