this novel iirc looked at in/action and Complicity more than it looked (directly) at anything to do with her teacher.

The honesty of this novel was shocking at times, but the paths of the characters felt inevitable -- surprising moments but inevitable ends. Linda is such a different protagonist than I'm used to reading, but she was written with incredible understanding; i.e. I could understand her and her motivations. Her focus and her desire felt tilted from the "norm" but true to who she is as a character and kind of refreshing in an unapologetic way. I enjoyed the pacing of the story; the way it unfolded felt satisfying. The end did feel a little like a thesis statement, but not in a bad way. Overall, a darker read than my usual, but the writing was beautiful and thought-provoking, and the characters were full and honest.

A wonderful book, unique voice. Brevity in structure reminds me of Amanda Eyre Ward's style of writing.

This is one to sit with and ponder awhile....

This book has a very ethereal feel. The sense of setting and place in the story is spot on- beautifully described and eerily enticing. The story itself is quite strange and quirky but it is well written. I enjoyed reading it but haven't quite made up my mind about how I feel about it.

I borrowed this book expecting a werewolf story. Since that wasn't the case, the plot definitely surprised me

A sad & lonely story without much flow between time or events.

while i found this profoundly disturbing, it gripped me from chapter 3 or so. i would have enjoyed it  more had i understood  some of the literary references and had some basic understanding of Christian Science, but even without it was a twisted and expertly crafted insight into the darker sides of religion, isolation, and adolescence.
